Description of the Solaris tomato variety, cultivation features
Tomato Solaris is a mid-early variety of Moldovan selection. The description on the packaging of seeds from many manufacturers guarantees high marketability and fruitiness. This information is confirmed by reviews of those who have already tested the variety.
Transnistrian tomatoes
Solaris in many ways surpassed the famous Moldavian Perseus. The bright red Solaris tomatoes do not have the typical Perseus green spot around the fruit stem; they significantly exceed it in yield. However, the quality indicators make both tomato varieties suitable for long-term storage and transportation.
Solaris is approved, according to the register of the Russian Federation, for cultivation without shelters in the North Caucasus and East Siberian districts. Suitable for industrial cultivation and mechanized harvesting. The main characteristics of the fruit:
- large (up to 170 g);
- storage (stored for up to four months);
- the taste is sweet with a slight sourness;
- 3-4 chambers in the fetus;
- tomatoes are used for making fresh salads and for preserving tomato juice.
By substance content:
- sugar 3.3%;
- dry matter 4.9%.
Solaris tomatoes are flat-rounded, slightly ribbed, smooth skin. 5-7 pieces are tied on the hands. Productivity from 1 sq. m 6 kg, from 1 hectare they collect up to 539 centners.
Biological features of the plant
The bushes are determinate, they do not grow higher than 80–90 cm. The foliage is medium, the inflorescences are simple, the first is formed above 6–7 leaves, the next after 1–2. The peduncle is articulated.
Bushes are crowded without interference after 4-6 flower clusters. Moderate susceptibility to diseases is noted:
- late blight;
- deformation of vegetative organs;
- fusarium;
- alternaria.
According to reviews and descriptions, it is resistant to TMV and tomato anthracnose. After germination, 110 days pass before the harvest ripens. The fruit yield is good. In regions with cool summers, it is grown in greenhouses and under film shelters. It tolerates high temperatures of air and soil without serious damage to the condition, unpretentious in general care.
Basic agricultural technology
For seedlings, seeds of the variety are sown in the second decade of March. By the first half of May, the seedlings will be ready for outdoor use. Planting is performed according to the scheme: 50x40 cm. For 1 sq. m leave 7-8 plants. The film shelter is necessary for the period of spring frosts and low temperatures, when the threats pass - the film is removed from the tomato.
1 hour before planting, the seedlings are watered - this contributes to easier extraction from the containers. Tomatoes are placed in prepared holes, deepening the main stem by 4–5 cm, which is necessary for the formation of a strong and branched root system of the variety.
The first application of liquid fertilizer is scheduled in 10-14 days.At the same time, the top layer of the soil is mulched with straw, sawdust or covered with non-woven agromaterials.
According to the characteristics determinant tomatoes Solaris varieties do not require tying, but so that the stems do not bend under large fruits, supports are installed. Bushes can be formed into one or two trunks. A feature of determinant tomatoes is the formation of a flower cluster at the end of the stem. Further, the stepson will continue to grow, he must be correctly identified and left.
The Solaris variety has no difficulties in growing. A good harvest of ripe tomatoes is harvested not only by experienced gardeners, but also by novice summer residents.
