Characteristics and description of the tomato variety Zhenechka, its yield
Super early tomato Zhenechka meets all the requirements of varieties zoned for risky farming zones in the Urals and Siberia. The compact, low bush is suitable for compact plantings and allows you to get a good harvest on a small area.
Everyone who has planted a tomato notes its reliability. A good harvest is guaranteed in all weather conditions.
Characteristics of the variety "Zhenechka"
All varietal qualities of the “Zhenechka” tomato are selected in such a way that in the shortest possible summer the formed fruits have time to ripen.
This is what its main characteristics look like:
- the plant is determinate, low and medium-fruited;
- a super early variety with a growing season of 80-87 days. This means that from the moment the seedlings emerge to the first tomatoes, it will take less than three months;
- determinant bush, medium branching, medium leafy, 35-40 cm high;
- the tomato does not require the formation of a bush, it is recommended to remove shoots only from the bottom, up to the first flower brush;
- the plant forms 3-4 clusters with fruits, each weighing 80-100 g;
- rounded tomatoes, slightly ribbed at the base, evenly red;
- the skin is dense, does not crack when canning;
- the pulp is juicy, sweet and sour taste;
- tomatoes are suitable for canning, juicing, mashed potatoes, summer salads;
- up to 2.5-3 kg of ripe tomatoes are harvested from one plant.
Taking into account that low-growing tomatoes can be planted up to 6-8 bushes per square meter, the yield looks very impressive. In addition, the harvest is amicable, almost instantaneous. Tomatoes are harvested before the first frost. That allows the plant to avoid late blight.
Important! At the initial stage of growth, tomatoes need fertilizing with phosphorus fertilizers to form the root system. In the future, phosphorus with potassium helps early flowering and ripening of fruits, increases resistance to diseases.
Growing and caring for early tomatoes
Determinant varieties have a number of advantages in growing technology and care. There is no danger that they will stretch too far in the seedling stage. At the right time, the plant itself stops growing, which does not require its formation. It takes less time to remove stepchildren, in some cases they are not removed at all. But, nevertheless, it is necessary to create conditions for its full development and nutrition, properly prepare and harden the seedlings.
Hardening the seeds of heat-loving crops accelerates the development of plants by 3-7 days, increases the yield by 30-40% and significantly increases the share of early production. The procedure is quite simple.Seeds that have started to grow, after soaking in clean water or a solution of trace elements, are kept for 12 hours at zero degrees for 7 days.
Growing seedlings
Growing recommendations and a description of the care of tomatoes cover the entire period of growth and formation of the plant. But the most important is the initial stage.
- Seeds for seedlings should be planted for germination 55-60 days before being transplanted outside.
- A soil substrate is prepared in advance, which should be moisture-consuming, breathable, saturated with the necessary microelements with a good lumpy structure.
- The seeds are disinfected, treated with growth stimulants, and tempered if necessary.
- The seeds are buried in moistened soil by 1.5-2 cm, covered with a transparent screen and germinated at a temperature of 23-25 degrees.
- With the appearance of seedlings, the temperature is reduced to 15-18 degrees during the day, and at night to 8-12 degrees.
- Seedlings are dived in the stage of 2 permanent leaves into separate containers or boxes, where a feeding area of 10 x 10 cm is calculated for each plant.
- Seedling care consists in regular watering followed by loosening the soil. The moisture content of the soil mixture should be 70-80%.
- Once every three weeks, the seedlings are fed, trying to select the top dressing in accordance with its condition.
- A couple of weeks before planting in the ground, the plants are hardened, accustoming them to low temperatures and natural sunlight.
Correct upbringing of seedlings in the future will allow you to get an even earlier harvest.
Before planting, lay the entire necessary set of fertilizers per 10 square meters of 80 g of mineral fertilizers, 100 g of phosphorus, 70 g of potassium and 25-30 kg of humus or peat compost. Fertilizers containing chlorine should not be used. Tomatoes do not tolerate it well.
Rules for caring for "Zhenya"
Further care is very simple, which largely contributed to the popularity of the variety, its relevance in garden and personal plots. As a gardener from Omsk writes, I have been growing them for several years and I advise everyone. The variety of tomatoes "Zhenechka" has never let me down, no matter what summer is.
- Seedlings are planted in the ground in the second half of May.
- The planting scheme is 70 x 30 cm, from 5 to 8 plants are placed on a square meter.
- Seedling care consists of watering and fertilizing, weeding and loosening the soil.
- Otherwise, determinant plants are not demanding.
- With the appearance of the first brush, the leaves and shoots that are below are removed.
- If necessary, support is installed, the stem is tied up.
- The variety behaves well in greenhouses without heating, as evidenced by the reviews of gardeners. There plants grow up to 60-70 cm. The harvest is earlier and more friendly.
Harvesting of grown tomatoes begins in the last days of June. Tomatoes with such a ripening period are rarely used in canning; they are used for fresh salads, soups, stewing and frying with other vegetables. That is why varieties that do not need space in the greenhouse and too much time for care become favorites of gardeners.
