How to make a device for collecting cherries from a tall tree with your own hands
When ripe cherries hang high on the branches, the fable of IA Krylov "Fox and grapes" comes to mind. As in that fox, “the eye sees, but the tooth is numb” juicy berries, teasing with their ripeness. But inventive gardeners have come up with many devices in order to pick cherries from a tall tree without leaving a rich harvest on the branches. You can, of course, grow dwarf varieties of fruit trees, but on tall trees the fruits are larger and sweeter.
Features of devices
There are several ways to collect cherries. They depend on the number of trees on the site, their height, and yield. A low bush can be picked by hand without using available tools. Sometimes you need a ladder. And so it is enough to take a bucket and pluck cherries into it, with or without cuttings. When a cherry tree reaches a height of 4-5 meters, then harvesting from it is problematic. And here various devices come to the rescue for tilting the branches down and removing fruits.
Stone fruit plantations can be harvested using combines. There is a device with a mechanical arm on sale. Vibration knocks the berries off the branches, and they fall onto the tarp spread under the cherry. The arched frame machine picks the fruit using vibrating brushes that place bright red cherries on a conveyor belt. Such devices can be used on farms. It is impossible to remove cherries from tall branches without auxiliary devices, and you don't want to lose the harvest of a tasty berry.
Collection devices
Gathering fruits from a tall tree is always difficult. First of all, you need such devices that can be purchased in a store or made by hand. The most convenient device was invented a long time ago. This is a cherry picker. It can be a tin container, the opening of which is a "mouth" with teeth. Gently grab the fruits with a hole and tear them off with cuttings. After filling the container, pour the crop into a bucket.
The ladder is the gardener's main help for picking ripe fruits. It can be a stepladder, matched to the height of the tree. It is convenient to pick ripe berries from it. But sometimes you can use a simple wooden ladder to collect, leaning it against the trunk of an adult tree.
A simple tough and sturdy hook collector is useful for bending branches down. Having fastened the branches, pick the ripe berries with your hands.
You can also use a medium sized hook to hang the bucket. A plastic container suspended from a tree is useful for folding ripe cherries. Standing on the stairs, it is difficult to simultaneously hold the container for the harvest and pick ripe fruits from a tall tree. A rope is also suitable here, which is used to tie the bucket to the belt.
It is convenient to combine pruning of branches with harvesting a stone fruit crop. This requires a tool such as a hacksaw. Long ropes are tied to its handles. One end is held by the person standing under the tree, and the other by the one who is standing on the stairs. The device allows you to cut a branch together with juicy fruits. Homemade devices
So many accessories for gardening have been made with their own hands that they are known to every experienced gardener. Among them are:

The comb device is made of thick wire. Bending its ends, insert it into the neck of a 5-liter plastic bottle. A pole is pushed inside the vessel from the side of the cut-out bottom. It should be lightweight and comfortable. The comb teeth are screwed to the lateral parts of the pole with self-tapping screws. They put a comb under the branches of a bush and pick off the fruits.
To make the climbing device more stable, you need to build a structure in the shape of a pyramid. The side of the lower part of the device is made within 1 meter. Then the self-made device will not swing, but will be able to stand firmly on the ground. On each side, slats are stuffed with a size of 50 x 25 millimeters. It turns out a strong ladder, which will become an assistant in harvesting ripe berries.
What fruit collectors are not made of! Used to collect reconstructed cherries:
- a plastic tube cut obliquely;
- plastic bottle;
- the shape of a fishing net, which is led along the branches and knocked down the fruits.
