Description of the Bogatyr garlic variety, its characteristics and cultivation
Garlic Bogatyr is named so because of its impressive size. The head can reach 75–85 g, while there are bulbs weighing about 115 g. 7–8 large teeth grow on the head. They are easy to plant and unpretentious in care, therefore they are good for growing by both skilled and novice gardeners.

Winter garlic Bogatyr is annual, therefore, for excellent reproduction, planting should be carried out annually. The arrow plant reproduces by teeth and bulbs that form in the arrows. At the same time, the flower is sterile and does not take part in the reproduction process.
Stems and leaves
The presented variety has two types of leaves. Their characteristics are as follows:
- The upper ones are above the ground. They carry out an assimilating function, assimilate substances necessary for growth.
- The scales of the teeth are a modified upper leaf, in which the assimilating function has been replaced by a protective one. The scales protect the teeth from external influences.
8-10 leaves grow on one stem, the width of which is 1–2 cm, length - 20–60 cm. Grow alternately, after the lower ones have appeared, the rest of the leaves sprout from the inside. The result is a false stem with an arrow inside. Due to this, the leaves, when ripe and reaching the maximum growth, do not go down.
Bulb ripening is observed on yellowed leaves. Gradual yellowing starts from bottom to top. Distinctive features of ripe garlic are dry and thin leaves at the base of the stem, with an acquired white color.
At the bottom of the stem is the head of garlic - the bottom of a complex bulb. Teeth are fixed on top. There is a long flower arrow in the center of the plant. Once the tip begins to curl, the arrow is trimmed for use in cooking or for later planting. In the second option, the air bulbs are planted in the same way as the cloves.
Roots and bulb
A garlic bulb weighs up to 85 g, has 5–7 cloves, and has a round-flat shape. The function of a complex bulb is to store nutrients, it is also an organ of vegetative reproduction.
Teeth are placed around the arrow, the head is covered with several thin scales. The fleshy scales that cover the teeth are purple in color, after drying they turn brown. The teeth are rich in essential oils, have a persistent aroma, crisp and quite spicy. They are used for cooking various dishes, preservation, and can also be used fresh. Heroic varieties have a fibrous rhizome, which, despite this, is quite strong. It is located at the base of the bottom and diverges on the sides, dimensions - 50 cm wide. When harvesting, the rhizome is usually not completely dry yet, so the garlic is slightly undermined.

In order to obtain a good harvest, planting teeth should be chosen in the largest sizes. If you take small ones, the harvest will become smaller every year.
For storage, you should choose a dry place so that the garlic does not get damp or rot. The choice of the landing site is important. The best will be the land on which zucchini, carrots, potatoes and cucumbers were previously planted.

Garlic of the Bogatyr variety is winter, the description indicates that planting should be carried out in late autumn, 30-40 days before the first frost. If planting is done late, the garlic rots in the ground before it can take root.
If planting material is planted too early, the teeth will sprout and freeze in the winter in the future.
With timely planting, the teeth germinate and take root. Planting is allowed in the spring, in which case the bulb will be one-toothed. A large onion is taken for the next planting, which will later produce a bulb with 5-7 cloves. This method is used to improve the fertility and bulb size of subsequent crops.

For a good harvest, adhere to the following planting recommendations for Bogatyr:
- the clove sinks into the ground 10–12 cm from the bottom;
- the gap between the teeth is 16-18 cm;
- it is important to fertilize the land with manure before planting;
- rows are made with a distance of 45 cm;
- with the onset of the first frost, mulching is done.
In the spring and before harvesting, regular watering, fertilization and loosening of the soil is important. Weed removal - as needed.
