Description of the potato variety Krepysh, cultivation and care
The potato Krepysh was included in the state register in 2005 as an early-ripening variety bred specifically for cultivation in the central regions of Russia. For several years, potatoes have spread throughout the domestic territory and covered the CIS countries. The popularity of this variety has brought a lot of positive characteristics, including high yields and the possibility of using both for home and industrial purposes. Today, Krepysh's plantations are ubiquitous in summer cottages and backyards.
Description of the variety
The early ripe potato variety Krepysh reaches commercial maturity within 80 days from the moment of planting. Up to 400 centners of yellow oval root crops can be obtained per hectare. One bush can form 15 tubers. The mass of a potato reaches 120 grams. Sparse eyes are at medium depth.
Intended for table use. High palatability allows any heat treatment. Does not change color or crumble during cooking. The creamy pulp contains approximately 12% starch. It has proven itself in fried form, it is successfully used for cooking French fries and chips.
Upright bushes of intermediate development type grows of medium height. The dark green leaves are also medium in size and slightly wavy around the edges. Landings are decorated with bright purple, with a red tint, large flowers.
Growing
Krepysh potatoes are planted in May in a well-lit place that is not subject to moisture stagnation. Ideal if its predecessors are legumes, grains, perennials or flax. There should be about 60 centimeters between the plants, the row spacing should be at least 35 centimeters.
From autumn, the soil should be dug deep and fertilized well.
Before planting, the seeds and the site must be prepared:
- Germinate, plant greenery, process seed material for the prevention of common diseases.
- Spray with growth regulator.
- Dig the site to a shallow depth and loosen the top layer of the earth.
- In case of high soil moisture, potatoes are planted on ridges or ridges.
- To accelerate the germination of seed material and in order to avoid rotting, you need to wait for the soil to warm up around the clock at least +8 ° C.
- Post-planting soil mulching brings good results.
There are three planting methods for ultra early harvest:
- Wait until warm weather sets in.
- Cover crops with special materials. The best of them is considered to be spunbond, which can withstand a drop in air temperature to -5 degrees and let air through.
- Prepare ridge embankments in the autumn, then they will quickly warm up after the snow cover disappears.
Care features
Proper care of Krepysh potatoes includes
The characteristic of Krepysh potatoes dictates a certain growing technology:
- Two weeks after planting, the row spacings are loosened, before which it is recommended to fertilize with soluble fertilizers, bird droppings or manure.
- When soils are heavy, loosening is carried out immediately after emergence and continues until flowering. The amount of loosening is determined by the condition of the soil and the presence of weeds. Since Krepysh potatoes are able to develop at a depth of up to 20 centimeters, insufficient hilling can cause a decrease in the yield and quality of tubers.
- Rows should be piled up in one direction.
- Potatoes need irrigation only during the period of bud setting and flowering.
- During the season, three additional fertilizing with organic and mineral fertilizers are required, without an increased nitrogen content. It is better to use medicinal preparations.
On fertilized and loosened soil, weeds rise at a double speed, taking away nutrients from young potato sprouts. Therefore, regular weeding during this period is required. When the tops cover the entire area and bloom, the weeds will no longer damage root crops.
Advantages and disadvantages
The Krepysh potato variety has many advantages:
- One plant forms up to 15 tubers, possibly more.
- Stable yield indicators. From one hectare - 3 centners.
- Early ripeness. The first digging can be carried out already two months after the emergence of shoots.
- The ability to grow in any soil due to good adaptation and germination.
- Drought resistance. Plants do not need constant watering, but it is best to monitor the condition of the soil.
- Not susceptible to sudden changes in temperature.
- Excellent, unique taste. Score on a five-point scale - 4.7.
- Transportability. The variety is allowed to be transported at any distance and stored in the cellar for a long time. Subject to all the rules, the tubers retain their characteristics until the next harvest.
- Keeping quality - up to 97%.
- Resistant to potato diseases such as cancer, nematode, rictoniosis, scab.
The description of the shortcomings includes: - Vulnerability to late blight.
- The need for frequent hilling.
- Low starch content.
- Dependence on make-up.
Pests and diseases
This variety is sometimes subject to late blight disease, which becomes noticeable immediately after germination. Dark spots on the leaves are later found on tubers. In order to prevent this disease, plants should be sprayed with contact fungicides at the stage of tuber formation. The leaves remaining after harvesting must be immediately burned to prevent late blight in the next season.
Solanaceous diseases such as fusarium or verticillium wilting and alternaria can also occur.
Of the insect pests, the Colorado potato beetle should be distinguished, the fight against which is carried out by all methods known to date.
Harvesting and storage
Sturdy is ready to start harvesting 45 days after germination. Before the potatoes are fully harvested, you need to wait another two weeks, this will increase the scale of the harvest. The grown potatoes are harvested from the plot, with the exception of the plants that will be stored in order to provide seed for the next year. Such root crops are dug out in late June - early July, trying to avoid damage.
There are two methods of harvesting:
- Traditional. In this case, the bushes are completely removed from the soil.
- Protracted. In this case, the largest tubers are separated from the plant, while the smallest ones remain to ripen for two to three weeks. This option allows you to double the yield.
For storing potatoes Krepysh prepare a dry, dark, ventilated room.
The technology of harvesting tubers in the form of a stream allows digging, sorting and storing the crop in one day.
The freed up area can be reused and grown on it beans, corn, peppers, tomatoes, early cucumbers.
