In what cases is used
Ivermectin is used in veterinary medicine when cattle are infected with nematodes (worms) or arthropod insects. It destroys pests in the larval or sexually mature stage of development. Sheep are treated against helminths by injections of the drug in the fall, after the cessation of grazing on fresh grass and in the spring, when the first vegetation appears. The eggs of the parasites do not die in frost or heat. They remain in pastures for many years outside the body of the animal. Immediately after the termination of summer of gadflies, ivermectin is used against their larvae. According to the symptoms, they look whether it is necessary to treat ticks. The harmful effect of the drug against parasites lasts 10-14 days.

Instructions for use and dosage of "Ivermek" for sheep
The introduction of the drug to pregnant females was excluded later than 28 days before the birth of lambs. The active substance is excreted through urine, bile and milk, so the baby may be poisoned. For the same reason, the drug should not be mixed with feed in order to avoid getting it into the gastrointestinal tract of animals of any age.
The minimum package of Ivermek, 1 ml, is consumed per 50 kg of body weight. The dose for every kilogram of sheep's weight is 200 micrograms. Injection Guide:
- The wool at the injection site on the neck or rump is cut off.
- Rub the skin with alcohol or iodine tincture.
- Take needles with a sharp bevel.
- Syringes and needles are sterilized in boiling water for 10 minutes.
- Check the correct dose.
- The temperature of the medicine should be 38-40 ° C.
- After filling, the syringe is lifted up with a needle and air is pushed out of it.
- When they began to inject the solution, they carefully monitor the condition of the animal. If signs of malaise or agitation appear, the administration is stopped immediately.
In case of extensive lesions of the animal with a tick, ivermectin is re-injected after 8-10 days. In order to prevent massive complications in a herd of sheep, the effect of the drug from each new series is tested on 7-8 animals with different body weights. If the outcome is successful, all livestock are treated in three days.
Side effects
If Ivermek is used correctly, side effects are extremely rare. Only some animals develop:
- increased salivation;
- increased urination and defecation;
- impaired coordination of movements without muscle weakness.
These symptoms usually disappear quickly. "Ivermek" cannot be administered into the body together with drugs that contain macrocyclic lactones, since it also contains them. There is a danger of increasing the toxic effect of both drugs.
Are there any contraindications?
Patients with infectious diseases and emaciated rams and sheep should not be administered Ivermek. They need to be isolated from the rest of the herd until they are strong. It is forbidden to inject the drug to animals that have previously been identified with its individual intolerance.
The advantages of the drug, additional to the antiparasitic action, are:
- the presence of an antioxidant, vitamin E;
- there is no irritation at the injection site;
- quickly absorbed.
