Rules for the use of soda against weeds in the garden and precautions
Lovers of agricultural work during the summer season need to constantly deal with weeds not only in the beds, but also in the furrows. After all, "freeloaders" take away moisture, nutrients from useful crops, shade them. There are many ways to remove unwanted plants. But the use of soda weed in the garden is the most effective remedy.
What is sprinkled with baking soda?
Soda is a compound of chemical elements called sodium carbonate. It has been used in agriculture for a long time as a safe and natural remedy that helps to eliminate many problems.
Vegetable and berry plants are sprayed with soda powder on personal plots:
- Ill with late blight, various rot. Moreover, preventive treatments begin to be carried out as soon as dense shoots appear.
- Aphids or ants attacked. Moreover, dry white powder helps from the latter. It is scattered on the paths along which hardworking insects run.
- To get rid of the wireworm that spoils potatoes. A teaspoon of sodium carbonate is added to the bottom of each hole in which the root crop is placed. Moreover, this procedure is carried out annually. After 3-4 summer cottages, there will be no trace of pests.
- To improve the taste of the fruits, foliar and root dressing of tomatoes is carried out.
- To increase the sugar content of grapes during fruiting, all vines are sprayed with a 6% solution of the product.
- To increase productivity, slow down the aging of cucumbers, the bushes are periodically treated with a soda solution.
- You can destroy slugs and caterpillars by sprinkling white powder in places where they accumulate. Or by spraying these areas with a caustic solution (10 tablespoons of powder are placed on a ten-liter bucket of liquid). Moreover, the processing is carried out daily, until the uninvited guests disappear completely.
To all of the above, the white powder restores the pH balance of acidic and strongly acidic soil. This problem is especially important in the Non-Black Earth Region. After all, there are practically no non-acidified soils.
How baking soda helps in weed control
When sodium carbonate is dissolved in water, an alkaline solution is obtained. He, falling into the ground, quickly changes its acidic environment. And the weeds die, because they cannot adapt to the changed conditions.
It is better to use soda ash, as it has a stronger concentration than baking soda.
Take 2 teaspoons of the product and dissolve in one liter of warm liquid. This remedy is used to water problem areas.
Efficiency of use
This method is very effective only when the weeds are just starting to sprout. If the process is started, then the treatment with white powder will not help.
To enhance the effect, one day after spraying with sodium carbonate, irrigate with water in which vinegar essence is dissolved (4 tablespoons per 1 liter of liquid).
Application rules on the site
When carrying out the procedures, the following conditions are observed:
- The solution is prepared immediately before use, because its beneficial properties disappear within 2.5-3 hours.
- Processing is carried out on a hot, dry day.
- Problem areas are watered abundantly, sparing no liquid.
- The frequency should be 4-6 times in 10-14 days.
The white powder itself is kept in a place where the humidity is low, since in another room it will quickly damp and become stone.
The soil between the tiles of garden paths is also watered with soda powder, and not just the beds and furrows.
Precautions
When using white powder, the following rules should be observed:
- Store the product out of the reach of children and pets.
- It is necessary to prepare the solution and carry out the processing in rubberized gloves and goggles. After all, baking soda can cause an allergic reaction or damage overly sensitive skin of the hands.
- If the caustic solution gets on the eyeball, then immediately rinse its surface under running cool water.
And watering should be done without children and pets. Because their pranks can lead to the fact that the remedy is not on the ground, but on the body of a person or an animal.
In any gardening industry, weeds must be controlled. This can be done using inventory, soil mulching, and the use of chemicals. But there are negative points when using all these methods. Only the white powder treatment does not have them.
It is also harmless to pollinating insects, domestic animals, and people. Cheap baking soda is becoming a great alternative to other methods of weed control.
