Description of the Tornado tomato variety, its characteristics and yield
Mid-early hybrid Tornado f1 is a high determinant plant. In greenhouse conditions, the variety has a good yield and fruit quality. In the open field, the crop is grown mainly in the southern regions.
Distinctive features of the variety
A variety of tomatoes of Russian selection, patented in 1998. Bushes are medium leafy, standard. The height of the main stem is 150-190 cm. Recommended planting scheme: 3 units per 1 sq. m. The yield is 6-8 kg per bush.
Ripe red tomatoes, neat, rounded appearance. Average weight of Tornado fruits: 60–80 g, in southern regions up to 120 g. Universal use. Used by:
- for blanks and preservation;
- fresh salads and juice;
- whole salting.
Tornado tomato taste, according to gardeners' reviews, is sweetish, with a real "tomato" aroma. There is no “hard frame” characteristic of some varieties. There is a slight tendency to cracking, the fruits are not suitable for long-term storage. The crop tolerates transportation well.
The culture is genetically resistant to diseases:
- TMV, cladosporiosis.
- Fusarium, verticillium.
Dry matter content of tomato pulp: 5%.
Features of agricultural technology
For the successful cultivation of a Tornado tomato, it is necessary to exclude temperature drops. Sharp jumps during the growing season will negatively affect the characteristics of the crop. The soil is kept in a slightly moist state - this will help avoid cracks in the tomato skin. The beds under the tomatoes are mulched with rotted compost. Also used:
- peat;
- straw, hay, chopped grass without seeds;
- bark and sawdust.
A polyethylene film is laid on a layer of mulch; instead of a film, non-woven materials such as Agrotex or spunbond are suitable. The decaying organic matter will turn into humus and make the soil more fertile. Mulch will block surface vapors and stop weeds from growing. Tomatoes grown this way are more productive and less hassle in the garden.
Stepchildren standard tomatoes develop poorly, therefore, the plant does not waste nutrients on excess greens. It is still necessary to remove "empty" shoots in order to form one stem - a stem. If the bushes bend under the weight of the crop, a vertical support is installed.
Ripening of a mid-early tomato hybrid occurs in 100-110 days from the moment the seedlings are planted.
Fertilizer balance
To make tomato bushes compact, they limit the amount of nitrogen. If the soil has been mulched with humus, then nitrogen-containing fertilizing is not required. During the active growing season, Tornado tomatoes are supported with a nutrient solution (for 20 liters of water):
- 1 liter of liquid mullein;
- 2 tbsp. l nitrophosphate
Tornado tomatoes are watered strictly at the root, 0.5 liters of liquid per plant. Fertilizers are also applied by the foliar method, for this the rate of content of active substances is halved. Experienced gardeners are advised to alternate these two methods.
The commercial characteristics of the tomato Tornado f1 allow growing the crop on farms. Owners of small gardens who liked the description for the variety will be interested in tackling this tall, colorful plant.
