Those farmers and backyard owners who own Indo-girls are interested in when they start laying eggs. These poultry are often called mute ducks, or mute ducks, because, instead of the usual sounds, they emit a faint hiss. At six months, a duck lays no more than 8 eggs, and at 8 months their number doubles. At 9 months, Indo-ducks lay up to 22 eggs, at 10 months there are already 25. After that, a decrease in indicators begins, that is, after a month the number of eggs decreases to 22, and by a year it returns to the indicator of eight months - 16 pieces.
When productivity indicators decline, such eggs are not used for breeding, and the Indo-Ducks themselves are often sent for meat. Since duck eggs are used in small quantities for food, it is unprofitable to keep hens longer than 10-11 months. On average, a musk duck can lay up to 100 eggs in 365 days, record holders increase this figure to 120 and even 140. The egg weight reaches 60-70 grams, the incubation period lasts from 34 to 37 days.
What can affect the performance?
If an Indo-woman is 12 months old and still has not started laying, this may indicate hormonal problems in her body. Such a bird is culled and sent for meat. Also, the personal qualities of the hen affect the level of hatching of ducklings. You need to choose the right weft. It should be large, with a wide chest and with minimal growths on the head around the beak.
Indo-ducks are excellent mothers, so the brood will be with them safe and sound. It is not necessary for the laying hen to be a brood hen at the same time, because you can also lay “someone else's” eggs under a good mother.
But the performance of the laying hen can suffer from many external and internal negative aspects:
- Keeping in a cold, damp place.
- Insufficient calorie content of food.
- Low level of general lighting.
- Lack of "exercise".
- Crowded bird keeping.
- The presence of diseases.
Indo-ducks should receive fresh green food because uniform feeding is detrimental to their health and productivity.
What problems can there be?
Indo-women rarely get sick, they have a good appetite, friendly, calm character, unhurriedness. When breeding at home, they rarely have problems. In order for the birds to rush regularly, not to abandon the clutch and to breed dozens of ducklings, the owners need to know what requirements they make to the living conditions.
The muscovy duck is a good laying hen and hen, but to get a large number of eggs and hatch ducklings, you need to provide them with the following conditions:
- Insulated nest (you can take a regular box).
- Quiet, isolated from neighbors place for nesting.
- Warm nesting room.
- Ensuring cleanliness not only in the nest, but also in the house. Ducks do not tolerate damp and dirty litter, which must be replaced frequently with new ones.
- Free access to food and clean water.
- Bathing tank. Ducks love water - wet feathers are necessary to provide conditions for incubation of eggs.
- Indo-ducks need to be released into the pasture. Movement is useful, and in the grass the birds peck insects, snails, pebbles or gravel, replenish the supply of vitamins with fresh grass. There is no need to graze like geese - the mutees do it on their own.
A duck may abandon its clutch or refuse to incubate its offspring if parasites are present in the nest, the house is attacked by rats or other predators, and also if the incubation area is too brightly lit. If the bird is very frightened, it can throw not only eggs, but also ducklings.
