Main cast
The composition of compound feed for ducks includes finely crushed grain of various types - cereals and legumes, bran, cake, fish meal, milk powder. Salt and chalk, amino acids and mineral additives, shells, enzymes, yeast are added to the grain mixture. Mixed fodder can be given to adult ducks to dry, to young ducklings - to moisten and add to the mash.
Types of compound feed for ducks
Mixes are divided into 3 types - for small ducklings, for grown ducks and for adults. Due to the fact that at different stages of growth, different effects on the body of nutrients are required, the composition of the feed is not identical. It includes various products.
Full-rational
The duck mixture contains components from which a whole set of nutrients and active substances enters the duck body. When feeding a bird with this type of compound feed, there is no need to give anything else. The mixture is well absorbed and has a pleasant smell.
Concentrated feed
Concentrated duck mixes are added to the main diet. They compensate for the deficiency of protein, fat, amino acids, minerals or vitamins. The concentrate can be used in poultry farms or for feeding ducks in private backyards.
Protein and vitamin supplements
The mixture consists of protein concentrates, minerals and antibiotics. Additives are included in complete feed. Used separately as an additive, but not as a feed substitute.
Premix
It is a combination of vitamins, enzymes, minerals, amino acids. Like BVD, they are used as an additive to the main food.
Consumption rates
The dosage, like the composition, is divided by age. Small ducklings 1-3 weeks are given 20 g per head. Every day you need to increase the rate by 2 g. The starting compound feed is completely absorbed, giving a duckling daily weight gain of 20-25 g.By the age of 3 weeks, the ducks are gaining 550 g of weight.
Growth food for ducklings and mulard is intended for rapid weight gain and enhanced growth. As part of a compound that provides a weight gain of 40 g per day. The mixture is fed to the bird from 3 weeks of age. Can be mixed with chopped herbs and herbs. Green food increases the digestibility and absorption of food. Each head is given 80 g per day, every day increasing by 2-3 g. Ducks grow on this compound feed, having 2.5 kg of weight.
Then they switch to feeding with complete feed. It allows you to prepare young animals for transition to the category of adult birds. Ducks are fed this mixture from 9 to 26 weeks of age. Every day, 160-170 g is given per head, the dosage is not increased. They are fed wet. Broilers can be fed with a complete feed, they grow quickly on it.

How to make compound feed yourself at home
You can buy ready-made compound feed for ducks, but you can also make it yourself. It should include finely ground grains of wheat, corn, barley, peas, soybeans. You also need to add meal, cake, fish and meat and bone meal, fat, salt, yeast, chalk. In this case, the grain should be 60% of the mixture.
It is necessary to choose the proportions and achieve such a consistency of the finished mixture so that it is not dry, but not wet either. Dry ducks eat poorly and drink a lot of water, wet ducks become sticky and clog the bird's esophagus.
The approximate start time for ducklings to start eating is 10-30 days. At this age, the chicks grow most vigorously, so they should receive as many useful and nutrients as possible. Within 3 weeks, the ducklings are given food consisting of corn and wheat (50%), sunflower cake (20%), yeast (5%), dry skim and greens (3% each), fish flour (9%). Additives - chalk and ground shell.
After the ducklings reach the age of 1 month, they are transferred to a mixture, which consists of nutrients that contribute to accelerated weight gain. She is fed to slaughter. Homemade mixture consists of corn (45%), barley (8%), cake (17%), wheat (13%). Additionally include 4% fish meal, 5% yeast, 3% meat and bone meal, 1% grass and chalk. Thanks to its balanced composition of proteins and carbohydrates, the mixture allows ducks to gain weight, but not store fat. Feeding with compound feed to enhance the effect should be combined with walking on the pond. Walking improves the quality of the meat.
The ingredients must be mixed until smooth, poured into moisture-proof containers and stored in a dry place. If the mash becomes damp, it will deteriorate. This is the main disadvantage of homemade compound feed. But in good conditions, the shelf life is practically the same as in production. If it is not possible to store the duck feed in a dry place, you need to cook it one time.
Feeding rules
If you feed the ducks with complete formula, the ducks no longer need anything but water. It is convenient, there is no need to prepare mash for each feeding, the granules do not deteriorate over a long period of time.If stored in a dry place, they will not degrade for the period specified by the manufacturer. The packaging does not take up much space, the bags can be stacked on top of each other, which will further reduce the footprint.
It must be remembered that the compound feed is dry, there is almost no moisture in it, so the ducks need to put water in the drinkers. Fluid must be present in the house at all times.
When using additives, add them only at the time of preparation of the mixture. Leftovers that the ducks have not eaten should be removed from the feeders. Water, as in the previous case, must be constantly present in the duckhouse.
Is it possible to feed ducklings with pork or chicken compound feed
It is clear that only in duck food the ingredients are selected so that they meet the needs of this bird. But what to do if, for example, it is not on sale, but you need to feed the ducklings. As a substitute, you can use chicken and even pork mixture, but only in certain cases.
It is permissible to feed muscovy ducks and those raised for meat with granules for pigs. They are hearty and contribute to accelerated weight gain. For 1 head per day, 150 g is needed. Pig pellets are not suitable for feeding egg-laying birds, because of them it becomes fat and stops laying.
Granules for chickens differ in composition from duck pellets, but, if necessary, they can also be used. Broilers are suitable for mixtures for chickens of meat direction, ducks that lay eggs, feed with a composition for laying hens.
Combined feeds for ducks, especially of industrial production, are easy to use. They do not deteriorate, they are easy to use, you just need to pour a portion into the trough and that's it. Ducks, as gluttonous and omnivorous creatures, do not refuse compound feed, they eat it with pleasure. Properly prepared, it promotes body growth and weight gain At the same time, if you buy a mixture at a reasonable price, the purchase costs are justified by obtaining high quality meat and egg products.
