Description and subtleties of growing Triumph grapes
Triumph grapes are popular among summer residents. It's not only about the amazing aroma, rich taste, but also the ease of growing. It is resistant to low temperatures and diseases, so it can be grown in any region of the country.
Description and characteristics of the Triumph grapes
The plant was created by United States breeder Campbell. To obtain the variety, the popular Concorde and Muscat Chasselas were used. Surprisingly, after the appearance of Triumph on the market, these varieties practically disappeared into oblivion.
The Triumph grapes are tall, vigorous. Its leaves have three cavities, rather large in size. Flowers are bisexual. Bunches of grapes are usually in the range from medium to large in weight, their shape is closer to conical.
Amur grapes Triumph belongs to table varieties. This must be taken into account before proceeding with its processing. From one bunch, you can collect up to a kilogram of fresh berries, which, of course, is a fairly large figure. Contrary to popular belief, oval grapes can be more than just dark purple. There are variations with a deviation towards gold and green.
In any case, there is a natural waxy coating. On average, the weight of one berry is 4.5 grams, but it can reach about 6 grams on a mature vine. You can find out the specific characteristics of a particular variety from the seller of the plant.
The main characteristics of Triumph grapes:
- the main ripening time is from August 15 onwards;
- average yields - about 50 tons per hectare for middle-aged grapes;
- resistance to low temperatures - withstands up to -50 degrees;
- disease resistance - not susceptible to mildew, phylloxera.
The fruits of the Triumph grapes are distinguished by good taste characteristics. They have a typical grape aroma, and over time it does not diminish. It contains a large amount of sugar, making it one of the best options for preparing a wine drink.
Advantages and disadvantages
The American grape variety is popular in the countries of the former USSR. The fact is that this plant has perfectly acclimatized to frosts, which are usual for the country. Summer residents grow grapes even under adverse conditions. At the same time, an additional plus is the fact that the harvest takes place in mid-August, which is a little earlier than the rest. This makes it possible to pick berries before the first frost.
Grapes are also used to create hybrids. This is explained by the fact that it easily takes root, in case of damage it quickly recovers.
Other advantages of the Triumph grape variety, which summer residents especially highlight:
- optimal for making wine due to its maximum sugar content;
- high yield of the variety;
- ease of harvesting;
- a wide variety of berries by color;
- ease of disembarkation, care.
The downside of this variety is that it is not always pleasant to eat it fresh. The fact is that its skin is quite dense, it has to be thrown away, and the pulp is left.
The specifics of growing varieties
For successful cultivation, pay attention to the following points.
Timing
The Triumph grape seedlings are planted in early spring, but after the last frost. But in some cases it is allowed to plant a plant in late autumn.
Seedling preparation
At the time of purchase, you should carefully examine the seedling. It should not have dry places. If there are damaged roots, then such a seedling will not work. But the presence of small creases is permissible - then they are simply removed.
Seat selection
A grape seedling of this variety is placed only in well-lit places. Choose the southern part of the garden, which is not darkened at any time by large trees. Placed from north to south, while landing on steep hills is not allowed (a maximum deviation of 5 degrees is allowed).
The soil in which the seedling grows must be regularly processed.
If there are not enough nutrients, then mineral fertilizers are applied. According to summer residents, weakly acidic soil will be optimal for growing Triumph grapes.
Landing algorithm
It is necessary to prepare the hole, pour mineral fertilizers into it. If the soil is of insufficient quality, then supplement with nutrients. The seedling is placed in a hole, the plant is watered. It must be fixed with a support - an ordinary wooden stick will do. The soil is sprinkled with mulch, but this is not necessary.
Care advice
Competent care is also important.
Pruning
Pruning is required. This is done at least 4 eyes along the length of the fruit arrow. The arrows are fixed. Pruning is also carried out before wintering.
Top dressing
Top dressing is carried out at the stage of flowering and formation of the ovary. Top dressing:
- 3 weeks before flowering (organic);
- after the color has dropped after 2 weeks (also organic);
- before ripening for several days (potassium sulfate and superphosphate);
- after harvest (in the same way as the third).
Watering
It is possible to collect the largest amount of berries only if the plant is regularly watered. A drip technique is used, while feeding is done during watering.
Watering is carried out only at the beginning of ripening. It is reduced when the berries begin to dye. But after their staining and ripening, it is not recommended to add water.
Preparing for winter
The Triumph variety is distinguished by its tolerance to low temperatures. But it is worth accustoming the plant to this. In the first two to three years, the vineyard is protected in winter in the usual way. After the time has elapsed, one sleeve is left. If normal, then in the fifth year they do not cover at all.
Protection against diseases and pests
Although the plant copes with pests and diseases, regular treatment with insecticides and fungicides is required.
Collection and storage of grapes
Harvesting takes place from mid-August. Storage is possible, as the grapes have a dense skin.
The Triumph variety produces many fruits that are used for different purposes. When fertilizing, leaving the plant will delight for many years.
