Features of Uyfehertoi Fyurtosh cherries, a description of the variety and the nuances of its care are presented in this material.
History of origin
Uyfehertoy Fürtosh is a self-fertile Hungarian cherry variety based on the popular Panda.
It is named after the Hungarian city of Novy Belozersk, and is translated as Novobelozerskaya Kudryavaya. This city is known for its cherry liqueur and an abundance of cherry orchards. The result was a high-yielding winter-hardy variety, resistant to diseases, which Russian gardeners also liked.
Description of the variety
A sprawling, medium-sized tree with a pyramidal crown, gives high yields and begins to bear fruit 4 years after planting.
The fruits are large, 4.8 grams, with a pronounced cherry aroma. The stone is small, easily separated from the tender and juicy pulp. Cherries are dark red, medium ripening, a tree with a mixed type of fruiting (bouquet shoots and growth branches). In the descriptions of the variety, its high yield is especially indicated - an adult tree gives 20-22 kilograms of berries.
Uyfehertoy Furtosh is resistant to moniliosis and coccomycosis, the main diseases of cherry trees.
Growing features
Cherry belongs to unpretentious garden plantings. Timely, moderate watering, pruning, and pest control is all a tree needs to bear fruit well.
Cherries need:
- watering - depending on weather conditions - 3-4 times per season;
- pruning in spring for mature trees;
- application of complex fertilizers for fruit trees once a year;
- protection against pests - if necessary, it is sprayed 2 times per season.
If you follow these simple rules of care, problems with the tree do not arise.
Choosing a landing site
The area where you plan to plant a cherry tree should be protected from drafts and moderately lit. Cherries can grow on non-fertile soils, but they cannot stand waterlogging, acidic or salty soil.
Landing
Cherries are planted in autumn or spring. Planting is carried out in October-November or April, depending on the region. If the winters are too cold, the fragile seedling may freeze. A hole is dug before planting, the size is 60x60 centimeters.
A drainage layer is applied to the bottom of a deep and wide pit, and then fertile soil.It is poured into a slide, on top of which a seedling is placed and the roots are carefully straightened.
Important: before planting, the tree is placed in water for 5-6 hours so that when planting it has moist roots.
Then the pit is covered with soil, the soil is slightly compacted, trampled underfoot, and watered.
Care
Take care of cherries it is not difficult, even a novice gardener can do it.
Watering
Cherry trees are drought tolerant, but flowering plantings should not suffer from a lack of moisture. This leads to crop loss. Water the cherry in case of strong drying out of the trunk circle. Water the second time when the ovary appears. The third watering is carried out in case of severe drought, when the berries ripen. And the last time is watered in September-October.
Pruning
Young trees (up to 10 years old) are not pruned. In adult cherries, dry branches and excess shoots are removed. This rejuvenates the tree and removes unnecessary stress.
Reproduction
Cuttings, grafting or propagation by shoots are used. Cherries can be grown from seed, but this is a laborious process, and the grown seedlings are usually much worse than the mother tree in terms of yield and other qualities.
The easiest way to propagate cherries is by overgrowth. The roots of the young shoot are cut off from the roots of the mother plant, and it is moved to the right place.
Cuttings are usually used in nurseries. One-year woody shoots are cut off. They are cut into cuttings with 4-5 buds. The lower leaves are removed, leaving only the upper 2. The lower cut is treated with Kornevin. The cuttings are planted in prepared soil and covered with foil. It is regularly removed to ventilate, and plantings are watered.
Diseases and pests
Uyfehertoi Fyurtosh is a disease and pest resistant variety. Not susceptible to monilial burn and has moderate resistance to coccomycosis.
For diseases, the tree is sprayed with Bordeaux liquid or treated with copper oxychloride. You can buy a complex fungicide from gardening stores and use according to the manufacturer's instructions. The first spraying is carried out after swelling of the buds, the next - after flowering.
Cherry is an unpretentious plant, it responds to minimal care with a high yield, and the taste of large fragrant cherries and homemade preparations from this berry will delight the whole family.
