Instructions for use of the drug Intavir against the Colorado potato beetle
Intavir from the Colorado potato beetle is a poisonous, water-soluble chemical from the Russian manufacturer Fasco. The chemical is available in the form of tablets weighing 8 grams or in powder form. The product is recommended for use on personal plots and large farms as a reliable insecticide effective against 50 varieties of pests of horticultural crops.
The main active ingredient in the composition is cypermethrin. The concentration of the substance in Intavir is about 38 grams per 1 kg. After spraying the plants, a microfilm forms on its surface, which, when sprayed with a preparation, covers the plant surface with a microfilm. If the agent enters the body of insects that damage potato plantings and eat foliage, it leads to paralysis of pests and their death within 24 hours. The effect of the chemical lasts for two weeks after spraying the shoots.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Intavir?
On the market of modern chemicals designed to combat garden pests, today there is a fairly large number, among which Intavir stands out favorably. For the first time, such a remedy was developed on the basis of squeeze from medicinal plants such as chamomile and tansy.
The benefits of a chemical include:

One of the advantages of the chemical is the ability to use it in a greenhouse. The product is one of the few that does not have an unpleasant specific odor.
Among the disadvantages of the chemical formulation is a special requirement for weather conditions to be able to spray the shoots. They can be carried out only in the absence of rain, since during precipitation the drug is washed off with water, and its effectiveness decreases.
How is Intavir used?
To use the drug for pest control, an aqueous solution is preliminarily prepared, which is subsequently sprayed onto the plants.To do this, take one tablet or sachet for dilution in 10 liters of warm water. First, the drug is diluted in a small volume of water, gradually bringing the amount to the recommended value. If it is necessary to process a small area of potato plantings, it is allowed to use half a tablet, while the amount of water should be reduced to 5 liters.
The best time for spraying is considered to be the morning or evening hours. The processing of potato plantings from the Colorado potato beetle is carried out in dry weather without wind at a temperature of no more than 25 C. Shoots are processed completely, including carefully processing the inner and outer surfaces of the leaf plates. The application of the solution is carried out by a continuous method, preventing the presence of untreated places during work, even if there are no obvious signs of larvae or beetles on the potatoes.
The product can be used to control pests of other garden plants. In this case, it is recommended to adhere to the following recommendations:
- thrips, aphids - 8 grams for every 10 liters of warm water;
- moth, caterpillar - 1 tablet is diluted in a bucket of water with a volume of 10 liters;
- weevil - 1.5 tablets per 10 liters of water, sprayed during the growing season;
- whitefly - 2 tablets for every 10 liters of water.
Such plants are processed during the growing season. Currant glass beads are treated with a solution of 1 tablet dissolved in 10 liters of water before and after flowering.
The drug is effective not only for fighting the Colorado potato beetle. The product can be used to treat “houseplants”. To do this, the tablet is divided into 8 parts, the resulting proportion weighing 1 gram is dissolved in 1 liter of water. On average, this amount of working solution is enough for half of a standard window sill completely covered with plants.
Important points
Intavir must be used to control the Colorado potato beetle only when pests appear. For preventive purposes, the drug is not used. During one season, potato plantings are processed 3 times and only after the flowering of the garden culture.
The last spraying is carried out 20-25 before the harvest.
For work, only a freshly prepared solution is used, therefore, when planning work, it is necessary to take into account the size of the area of potato plantings. After spraying, the diluted solution cannot be stored. The calculation of the volume of the working solution required for processing is carried out taking into account the fact that 1 package of the remedy for the Colorado potato beetle falls on 1 hundred square meters of potato plantings.
When working, it is important to observe safety measures and precautions. The rules for using pesticides in pest control are as follows:
- work is carried out in personal protective equipment, that is, in special clothing, goggles and a respirator;
- when spraying, do not smoke and take food;
- after finishing work, you must take a shower, carefully treating all parts of the body with water;
- spraying should not be carried out for women during the period of gestation and breastfeeding.
If the drug comes into contact with the mucous membrane or skin, the affected area must be thoroughly rinsed with plenty of water. If the agent gets inside, you need to drink a liter of plain water, induce a gag reflex and seek help from a medical institution.
It should be borne in mind that a remedy for fighting the Colorado potato beetle is effective only if the shelf life is 4 years from the date of manufacture. It is necessary to store the pesticide in a cool dry place out of the reach of small children and pets.
