The specifics of making jam from plums and apples for the winter
Apple-plum jam, like any jam, has some features:
- Fruit for such a jam can be taken slightly crumpled, damaged during transportation. Of course, such places are removed before cooking.
- To grind the fruit, it is permissible to use a blender, a combine, or even a sieve.
- If desired, it is allowed to add lemon, ginger, and other ingredients to the jam. This will give the treat a more interesting taste and smell.
Ingredients for the recipe
To make jam according to the classic recipe, you will need apples, plums and granulated sugar. The amount depends on what exactly the hostess wants to receive. Depending on the volume of the ingredients, you can get a sweeter or sour dish.
Features of fruit selection
In order to make a delicious jam, it is better to take unripe or ripe fruits. The fruits harvested with a delay contain less pectin, and the jam may turn out to be watery.
It is better to take apples of sour varieties. Fruits of such varieties as Granny Smith, White filling, Antonovka are well suited. Cooking steps
It is not difficult to properly prepare apple jam and plums. For a classic recipe you will need:
- apples - 1 kg;
- plum - 1 kg;
- sugar - 1 kg.
Recipe:
- Wash the fruit well, remove spoiled areas, if any. Remove the peel from the apples, cut into small slices, remove the core. Divide the plums in half and remove the seeds.
- Put all fruits in a saucepan and cover with sugar, mix well.
- Put the container on low heat, bring the mass to a boil, continue to cook over low heat for 50 minutes. Be sure to stir the mixture constantly so that it does not burn. If you want to add additional ingredients, then it is better to do this 10 minutes before the end of cooking.
- Skim off the foam during cooking.
- After the end of cooking, mashed potatoes are required from the resulting product. For this purpose, use a blender. In the absence of a device, it is permissible to grind apples and plums in a meat grinder or a food processor before cooking, and then cook them.
- Arrange hot jam in prepared jars and seal with lids.
Turn the jars with the finished product onto the lid and leave to cool, covered with warm clothes.
How to store the finished product correctly?
Jam is prepared in summer but consumed on winter days, so it is important to keep it in good condition. It is better to leave the finished treat in a cool dark place. It can be a refrigerator or a cellar.
If the presence of mold is noticeable on the product, then it is removed, and the dish itself needs to be boiled with added sugar and try to eat it faster.
