Characteristics and description of the apple variety in Memory of Esaul, frost resistance and fruit tasting assessment
The apple variety Pamyat Esaul has been successfully grown by Russian gardeners for many years. The tree produces fruits of above average size, the tasting qualities of which are assessed as high. Variety history
The variety appeared thanks to the many years of work of a group of scientists who conducted experiments on crossing apple trees prima and Kandil Krasnodar. In 2002, he was introduced to the State Register and received recognition as one of the best achievements in breeding. Fruit trees are recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus.
Description and features
Apple trees of this variety belong to the category of undersized, forming a compact crown. The branches have a directed upward growth, have a brown-gray tint of the bark. The inflorescences formed in the spring period are distinguished by the delicate white-cream color of the petals with characteristic pink veins.
Judging by the description, the apple tree belongs to the early winter varieties. The formed fruit is above average in size. The peel of the fruit is light green in color, which has a smooth surface to the touch. Outwardly, the effect of the presence of wax and the feeling that the fruit has been oiled is created.
On the sunny side of the fruit, which has received more sunlight, a pinkish blush is formed. Fruit color does not change during storage and corresponds to that observed at the time of full ripening.
The number of narrow seeds in one chamber can be up to 5 pcs. A feature of the variety is the juicy tender pulp of apples, which, when stored for a long time, can become sour-sweet. The fruit has a slightly elongated shape, and their average weight reaches 190 g. The variety is actively used for industrial production, including fresh consumption and high quality juices.
Additional characteristics of the variety
Advantages of the variety include decent flavor quality, early recoil and the ability to adapt to difficult growing conditions. High-quality fruit and the advantages of horticultural crops allow the use of apple trees for production on a farm scale. The advantages include the following points:
- early fruiting period;
- the possibility of growing in places with close water occurrence;
- large tasty fruits;
- undemanding variety to growing conditions and care;
- the ability to tolerate lack of moisture and cold temperature conditions.
On a personal plot, when planting the Pamyat Esaula variety, space is saved, due to the compactness and small size of the apple tree. The fruit tree needs pollinating plants, which are best suited for the Golden Delicious or Peach variety. The plant has a surface structure of the root system, therefore it needs timely and sufficient watering.
This feature makes it possible to plant in places where groundwater is close to the surface.
Dwarf apple trees that have entered the fruiting stage need additional support. In its absence, the tree, under the weight of the fruit, can not withstand and break. Untimely collection of apples is fraught with a decrease in yield and quality of fruits, and during storage, the effect of "tanning" can be observed. Delay in collection dates can lead to massive shedding of fruits.

The apple tree can be grown on seed and dwarf rootstocks; the height of an adult tree will depend on the chosen method. In the first case, the maximum height is 4 m, in the second - 2.5 m. To preserve the breeding properties, it is important to observe the planting technology. The location of the graft should rise 3-5 cm above ground level, otherwise the tree will lose its stunted quality.
Garden culture requires timely pruning for proper crown formation. To increase the diameter, young shoots are left, the growth direction of which is directed outward. Strong branches are left at the bottom, allowing the fruit tree to grow upward. In order to rejuvenate it, the growths are trimmed.
The frequency of fruiting
The branches of the apple tree form ringlets, on which, starting from the age of two, the trees form fruits. In some cases, a small number of apples can form an annual plant. It is important to remove ripe fruits in a timely manner, as they have the ability to shedding.
The fruit ripens in mid-September and is ready for eating in a month. The storage period is capable of reaching February. The amount of yield depends on the age of the fruit crop:
- from 4 to 5 years - 80 c / ha;
- from 8 to 9 - 328 c / ha.
The fruiting period of the variety varies from 15 to 20 years. At the same time, the yield indicators are comparable to those that have been demonstrated by traditional apple varieties for 30-40 years.
Fruit tasting
The aroma and taste of the apple is rated on a scale of 5 points at the level of 4.7. The composition of the fruit pulp contains 11.7% sugar, per 100 g of fruit there are 12.8 mg of vitamin C.
Frost resistance
The quality of the frost resistance of the variety is assessed as high. The horticultural crop is able to withstand cold ambient conditions.
Disease resistance
Esaul's memory refers to apple varieties that were among the first to acquire the ability to resist scab. According to gardeners, the plant copes with fungal diseases and powdery mildew. Most often, the plant is invaded by the moth.
Growing regions
Initially, an early winter variety was bred for active cultivation in the territories of the North Caucasus. Planting in the Krasnodar Territory demonstrates good yield indicators, therefore, the Memory of Esaul is today considered a promising species for cultivation in the southern regions of Russia.
