Description of the apple variety Tatyanin den, yield characteristics and growing regions
The apple tree of the Tatyanin's Day variety was presented to the attention of gardeners not so long ago, but it managed to gain great popularity. Fruits of a late ripening period with excellent taste and a large supply of useful microelements immediately attract attention. In addition to all of the above, they are also characterized by an attractive appearance; for a long period they retain their marketable and taste qualities.
Description and features of the variety
The description of the variety says that Tatyana's Day was the last apple tree submitted for state variety testing. The authors of this unique variety were scientists V.V. Vartapetyan and N.N. Vysotskaya. In 2004, on the eve of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Moscow State University, a presentation of Tatiana's Day took place.
The tree grows small, the crown is ball-shaped, the leaves are wide. Strong branches at the base extend from the trunk at an angle of 90 °. Fruits are flat-rounded and of impressive size. Slight ribbing is expressed. At the stage of technical ripeness, apples are green with red stripes, their skin is smooth.
The pulp has a light green color, excellent taste. The apple is juicy, sweet, with a barely noticeable sourness. The aroma is not strong, classic.
Harvesting the apple tree Tatyana's day falls on the end of September. The peculiarity of the variety is that its fruits can be eaten immediately after collection. Then the sourness in the taste is felt more strongly. During storage, the taste of the harvested crop is significantly improved. Shelf life of apples - until March.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Tatyana's day has both positive and negative qualities. Gardeners note that the variety has many more advantages, including:
- you can use and eat the harvested crop immediately after it is removed from the tree;
- excellent taste;
- suitability for long-term storage;
- resistance to major diseases, in particular to scab;
- small and compact dimensions of an adult tree;
- the plant adapts well to various climatic conditions.
Apple trees of the Tatyanin Day variety are not without some disadvantages. In particular, the tree does not tolerate cold winters. Its fruits have a tendency to shedding, so the crop should be harvested on time.
Characteristics of the variety
The apple tree of the Tatyanin's day variety is a new word in the domestic selection.Although scientists have not managed to obtain a plant that meets all the modern requirements of gardeners, the fruits of their many years of work now delight summer residents and professional farmers on their plots.
Size of an adult tree, annual growth
Tatyana's day tree reaches a maximum height of 5 meters, although its standard parameters are 4-4.5 meters. Due to the correct formation of the crown, an apple tree with a height of only 3-3.5 meters can be grown.
The growth of an average tree is just over half a meter per year. If this indicator does not even reach 50 centimeters, then this only indicates the past diseases or the negative impact of pests. Sometimes it happens that the growth of a young tree exceeds 75 centimeters.
This is also not a positive point, since young shoots will not be able to fully mature and prepare for the cold winter, therefore there is a risk of freezing. The reason for too much growth is overfeeding the plant with nitrogen fertilizers. It is they who contribute to the active growth of green mass.
The frequency of fruiting
The apple tree of the Tatyanin Day variety is distinguished by regular and annual fruiting.
Yield
Tatyana's Day is an apple tree with good yields. One adult tree per season is capable of giving over 50 kg of fruits with excellent marketability and taste.
Tasting assessment
The fruits of the Tatyanin Den apple trees are characterized by excellent taste, which was appreciated by both amateur gardeners and professional tasters. Apples were awarded 4.5 points.
Frost resistance
Apple trees of the Tatyanin Day variety are distinguished by good frost resistance, but they are not suitable for growing in harsh climatic conditions. With a strong and prolonged decrease in temperature, the branches near the tree are able to freeze, the level of yield decreases. In the middle lane, the plant hibernates without additional shelters.
Disease resistance
The apple variety Tatyanin Den is characterized by increased resistance to the most common types of diseases and pests. Scab resistance is also worth noting. However, when exposed to adverse weather conditions (rainy weather), the tree needs regular preventive treatments. For these purposes, it is recommended to use Bordeaux mixture.
Favorable growing regions
Apple trees of the Tatyanin Day variety are zoned for cultivation in the Central region of Russia. Here they are mainly grown, although cultivation is not excluded in the middle lane, as well as in the south.
