Description of the tomato variety Red coal, its characteristics and productivity
The original name of the tomato variety sounds like Red Charcoal, but in our country it is referred to as Red Charcoal. This name is associated with the non-standard color of vegetables, which have an unusual combination of black and red. During the ripening period, their appearance resembles embers, since the bottom of the tomatoes have a rich red color, and the top is black and purple.
The description of the variety classifies it as a medium indeterminate species. Tall bushes can grow up to 1.8 meters and, due to this feature, need a garter and pinning. Shoots are distinguished by good stem thickness, power and resistance to external factors.
The plant is capable of showing high yields when grown in open field and greenhouse conditions. When planted in open ground, the shoots are characterized by less growth, the height of the shoots reaches from 1.2 to 1.3 meters. It is recommended to grow bushes in two main stems.
The characteristics of the Coal variety indicate the possibility of using fresh fruits and for canning. Thanks to the unusual color, salads from tomatoes of the Red Coal variety acquire a special piquancy and an unusual appearance. The breeders consider the advantage of the variety to be resistance to most varieties of tomato diseases.
Features of fruiting
The fruits are distinguished by their rounded shape and smooth surface. The average weight of one vegetable ranges from 100 to 200 grams. Reviews of gardeners speak of the presence of a delicate aroma with subtle notes of fruit aroma.
The process of fruit ripening proceeds in an interesting way. First, they acquire a reddish tint, then in the area of the stalk, the vegetables change color to a bluish tint, and towards the end of the fruiting period they acquire a coal black color.
The flesh of vegetables is dense, deep red in color with a small amount of seeds. The advantage of the tomato is the high content of such a substance as anthocyanin, which has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the cardiac and vascular systems, and reduces the risk of cancer. It is thanks to the high content of this element that vegetables acquire an unusual color.
The plant is characterized by high yields and with proper agricultural technology, up to 5.5 kg of tomato are removed from one bush. In one brush of an adult shoot, on average, 5 vegetables are tied. Brushes with lots of vegetables may need extra tying.
Benefits of the variety
Breeders and gardeners talk about the unique combination of qualities of the purple variety. The advantages of the plant are considered to be:
- early ripening;
- leadership among purple tomatoes in terms of yield;
- unusually rich taste and aroma of fruits, the characteristics of which are not inferior to large-fruited fruits;
- versatility, since the plant is capable of yielding fruits both when grown in the open field and when nursing in greenhouse conditions;

- resistance to fungal and infectious diseases of the tomato.
A feature of the variety is considered to be a high rate of fruit setting, which slightly decreases under difficult weather conditions.
