Features of the preparation of orange compote
Oranges are fruits that can be found on store shelves all year round, so there will be no problems with ingredients either in winter or summer. The easiest way is to take fruits, water and sugar, but in order to get a richer, exotic aroma and taste, it is advisable to supplement the recipe with other components - spices, fruits, berries.
There are various recipes - you can cook compote to quench your thirst, or cook it for the winter, and then this delicacy will be at hand at any time - just take out and open a jar with a fragrant drink.
As it turned out, oranges are combined with many spices, berries and fruits: currants, cranberries, cherries, apples, dried fruits, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla. So you can choose the ingredients to taste and prepare different drinks.
And in order for citruses to retain all the useful elements, it is necessary to subject them to gentle heat treatment - to boil for no longer than 2 minutes.
Choosing the main ingredient
A real tasty orange is a ripe, juicy fruit, sweet, with a slight sourness. Bitter, sour, greenish citruses should not be eaten, and even more so to prepare juices or compotes from them.
To make the purchase the most successful, it is worth listening to the following recommendations:
- although this fruit is sold all year round, the healthiest and tastiest fruits can be purchased during the season - from December to mid-March;
- Citrus fruits from Spain are considered the best, Egyptian and Turkish oranges are often unripe on the shelves, and fruits from Peru and South Africa often contain chemical elements;
- externally, the peel of the fruit should have a smooth surface and a yellow-orange tint;
- An overly bright, bumpy skin is a sign that the fruit has been exposed to chemicals.
By the way, the sweetest is an orange with a "navel" - a small tubercle.
